Stephan Haas: For us it was and is important that new areas fit seamlessly into the existing structure. Throughout the house, our work is based on the principle of the red thread. That means that we are constantly evolving, while still retaining our character.
LIVING IN A HOTEL # 01
Das Kaltenbach****, Zillertal
Living in a hotel – this is the name of a new series in which we present particularly well-designed hotels and guesthouses, frequently following a visit to the location and an interview.
The first will be Das Kaltenbach, a 4-star aparthotel in the Zillertal. In spring 2022, the existing terrace was transformed into a lounge. An interview with owner Stephan Haas.
WHAT SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS DID YOU HAVE FOR THIS CONVERSION?
COLOURS, MATERIALS, SHAPES – HOW WAS THE DESIGN DEVELOPED?
Many impulses came from Geisler & Trimmel, such as the classy Occhio design lamps. home INTERIOR also inspired us greatly. Together with Monika Kruselburger we broke completely new ground. The result was a new colour concept and wall design with elegant wallpaper.
HOW DID THE CONVERSION PROCEED FROM AN ORGANISATIONAL POINT OF VIEW?
Designing new things is always fun. We had a time window of six weeks. This works out if you foster partnerships within the region and prepare the construction phase well.
GEISLER & TRIMMEL DID THE PLANNING. HOW DID YOU GET INVOLVED WITH HOME INTERIOR?
At home INTERIOR, they are experts for interesting tactile effects and have exciting suggestions for materials, surfaces and colours. We are convinced that furniture, fabrics and materials must feel good in order to create genuine comfort.
HOW DID THE FIRST GUESTS REACT TO THE NEW LOUNGE AREA?
Everybody compliments us on the striking wall design, which really catches the eye. The new lounge area is very popular.
